Fifth Grade

Ready. Set. Graduate!

Where did all the time go? Seems like just yesterday we were changing diapers, and now we're fundraising to send our fifth graders off in style.

Fifth Grade Events & Activities

There are several events and activities that are specific to fifth grade and while they may look different this year, we hope to make them as special as possible.

We are planning on the following for the coming year:

  • Class gift given to KP from 5th grade.

  • Baby photo guessing contest — photos are displayed in 5th Grade Hallway in the last month/weeks of school and are included in the yearbook.

  • 5th grade t-shirts — A t-shirt is designed by students to commemorate their final year at KP. T-shirts are worn during the Class Picture and on the Philadelphia Field Trip.

  • 2022-23 Yearbook

  • Goody Bags — we will deliver a goody bag to every student for Halloween and Valentine’s Day.

  • Class photo — Each student receives a free copy of a panoramic photo of the entire 5th Grade. Note: we will be working with Freed photography to see how this can be done.

Anticipated Events Include*:

  • Philadelphia field trip — The Philadelphia field trip is a KP/MCPS-organized event (budget permitting) that blends history with science. The trip Includes a morning walking tour hosted by guides of the historic district and viewing of the Liberty Bell. After lunch students enjoy the afternoon exploring the Franklin Institute with its “Train Factory,” and “Air Show” as well as traveling exhibits and Planetarium. Air conditioned tour buses, snacks and a stop for dinner are included.

  • Class picnic — 5th grade organizes a special class picnic.

  • Promotion ceremony — A graduation-type ceremony is planned with light refreshments afterwards and a slideshow to commemorate their 6 years at KP. All parents and loved ones are invited.

  • DJ dance party — A fun night of dancing, games & prizes only for the fifth grade class.

  • Visit to North Bethesda Middle School

  • Clap out — This is a KP tradition. The 5th grade students walk down the hallway for the last time. Students & teachers in lower grades stand outside their classrooms and clap for the departing students.

Room Parent Coordination

We want to make things easier for fifth grade room parents and will plan grade-wide Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties.

One-Time Parent Contribution

Parents are asked to consider giving a one-time student activity fee of $70 ($45 for fifth grade activities and $25 for class contributions for class parties, teacher appreciation, etc.). This will help provide all of the great benefits listed above to every KP 5th Grader!

Additional Fundraising and Volunteering

Look for information about Bake Sales, Restaurant Nights, and other 5th Grade Committee fundraisers and volunteer opportunities on EagleNet!

* Plans may change, depending on COVID or other issues - rest assured that the committee is committed to sending the 5th grade class off to middle school in style with alternative activities if necessary.
