Try tableau at home!

Have family members make still images with their bodies to represent a scene. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Read a story together and identify a few important events. Discuss what is happening in the story and create a tableau for each event.

Look at a painting or an illustration of a historical scene that depicts a number of different characters. Then bring it to life by representing the characters with your bodies.

Discuss a favorite movie. Have some family members create a tableau based upon the moviewhile the others try to guess what the tableau represents.

Read together different newspaper reports of the same incident (or differing accounts of an historical event) and produce a tableau that incorporates as many of the view points as possible. Discuss how events may be communicated differently, based upon the observer’s point of view.
