Walker/Rider Pick Up Procedures

Drop-Off/Pick-up Procedures for Walkers and Carpoolers

This year Kensington Parkwood Elementary instituted a pick up procedure for its students who carpool. So far it has been successful, but certain revisions have been made to maximize the safety and efficacy of the program. Below are the latest KP carpool pick up guidelines based on student, parent, and administrative feedback.

For Kindergartners:

Kindergarten teachers will continue to bring their students down to the lower school entrance and wait with them until each student has been picked up by a parent, responsible adult or patrol.

There are two options for picking up a kindergartner:

  1. You may walk up to the lower school entrance to retrieve your child from his or her teacher. OR,
  2. You may utilize the carpool line. If you park in the carpool line, a patrol will approach your car and ask your child’s name and class. The patrol will then retrieve your child from his or her teacher (at the lower school entrance) and escort your child to your car.
For Students Grades 1-5:

Teachers of students in grades 1 – 5 are not required to stay with their students until they are picked up by a parent or responsible adult. Patrols are only required to escort kindergartners to their cars. Therefore, it is very important to set up a specific pick up procedure with your child. If you do not walk up to the lower school entrance to retrieve your child, please explain to them that they should leave the lower school entrance and look for you in the carpool line.

  • General Reminders about pick up:
  • Please remain in your car if you are in the carpool line.
  • Please do not use the drive through lane to pick up your child.
  • Feel free to turn off your engine until the students begin approaching the cars.
  • If you park your car in the lot in order to walk up to the lower school entrance, please do not block the flow of traffic with your car.
