Eaglenet

Kensington Parkwood ES has its own email information network, Eaglenet, named after our school mascot, the soaring eagle. Eaglenet membership is open to all KP parents, teachers, administrators and staff. A yahoo account is required.

As of February, 2009, the Eaglenet homepage lists 420 members. Members are invited to access previous Eaglenet messages, including archives of KP's blue bulletin, posted to Eaglenet each week.

Two ways to join Eaglenet:

  • Send an email to Darin Bartram which includes your child's name and teacher, and the email at which you would like to receive postings. An email invitation will be sent to you, to which you respond in order to begin receiving postings.

  • Alternatively, go to kp-eaglenet yahoo group, click on the blue "Join this Group" button on the right. You will be prompted to login to your yahoo account. Once you apply to join, you must wait for approval. Darin will follow up by accepting. You will receive an email welcoming you to the group. Your yahoo account will give you access.

If you have any trouble subscribing or unsubscribing, please contact Darin Bartram at the email address listed above and he will assist you in completing the process.

A Yahoogroups listserv, Eaglenet was started by the KP PTA in 2002 to facilitate the exchange of information about the school, ie. news, events, and activities. Members receive all posted notices directly in their email "in" boxes. And, members may post notices to the entire Eaglenet list. Topics usually include information about school activities, parent information, teacher needs for supplies, county-wide issues, as well as bulletins about school closings or late openings. Members are also welcome to advertise information that parents would be interested in, like an opening on a 3rd grade soccer team or a schedule reminder about Hands-On-Science. There are options for receiving Eaglenet notices individually or in daily digest form.

How do I respond to messages?

If you want your response to go to the entire list of KP-Eaglenet members, you can simply "reply" to the email. If you want to respond just to the person who sent the message to the list-serv, you should be sure to just list that person's email in the addressee (To:) field of the email. This can be an important distinction, based on the content and nature of your reply.

Do you "screen" emails before they go onto Eaglenet, like some middle and high schools do?

No - fortunately, the KP community does not post off-topic or inappropriate messages, so there has been no need.

Can I put message delivery on hold while I'm away and unable to check email?

Yes, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kp-eaglenet (make sure you're signed in, or if you haven't ever signed in, choose a login ID and password to go with your email address). Once you get to the Eaglenet homepage, click on "My Groups" in the upper right corner. Click "Edit My Groups" on the left. Under "Message Delivery" select "No Email" from the drop-down menu. Click the "Save Changes" button. As a member, you can always view messages by going to the Eaglenet homepage.

Why hasn't a message I sent to the group appeared on the web site or in my email box?

First, make sure you've sent your message to the correct address. To post a message on Eaglenet, send to kp-eaglenet@yahoogroups.com. The next most common error is sending your message from an email address other than the one you used to register for Eaglenet. If you've ruled out these two common errors, there may be a temporary backup or problem with your internet service provider. Email Darin at bartram3515@verizon.net and he'll be happy to post your message for you.

What are the posting guidelines for Eaglenet?

Info about KP school activities, PTA activities, MCPS issues that directly impact KP students, extracurricular activities or community events that directly involve KP students. Generally, use your good judgment.

Can a KP family have more than one membership on Eaglenet?

Yes, some families have requested that both parents have Eaglenet memberships, and in some cases, individuals have requested memberships for both their home and work emails. Please let Darin know if you wish to do this.
